According to Rachel Lessen who coordinates the event
for the Emblem Club groceries were delivered to 91 families and 26
single/senior or veteran households.
The Emblem Club has been delivering groceries to families at holiday
time for 17 years. The food basket project is funded by a holiday
bazaar and dinner hosted by the Emblem club each year. This year,
Lessen said the group was able to spend just over $9,000.
On Saturday morning, it was foggy and spitting rain from time to
time. The group gathered inside for a photo that included members,
volunteers, and staff from the IGA.
Then it was out the door and into their cars. Drivers were lined up
in the alley behind the grocery store. There, they were given
addresses by Lessen and pulled up to the back door and IGA staff
loaded each vehicle with the appropriate number of bags.
Lessen said that the club works well with the management at IGA, and
they are very grateful for the long-standing partnership the club
has with the grocer.
