Dameron Beverly and Julie Carr have each been awarded
a Nurse Educator Fellowship from the Illinois Board of Higher
Education (IBHE) and the Illinois Nursing Workforce Center (INWC)
Advisory Board.
The Nurse Educator Fellowship was established to help provide
resources to train more highly-skilled nurses in Illinois by
retaining qualified faculty. Recipients are awarded $10,000.
Dameron Beverly, BSN, MSN, RN, has worked in nursing for 15 years
and in the Heartland Nursing program for two years. Along with her
work as a nursing educator, Beverly mentors youth from
underrepresented backgrounds who want to pursue careers in the
nursing field through simulation and skills labs to facilitate
hands-on learning experiences in the healthcare field. She plans to
use the fellowship to help advance expertise in nursing education
simulations, including the use of VR technology with a Certified
Healthcare Simulation Educator certification.
Julie Carr, BSN, MSN, RN, a nurse of 17 years has been an educator
in the Heartland Nursing program for four years. With a background
in pediatric nursing, Carr wants to bring more clinical judgment
scenarios into the classroom for students studying pediatric nursing
care. She plans to use her fellowship to pursue a Nurse Educator
Certification.
“We could not be prouder of Dameron and Julie,” said
Susan Carl, Heartland Interim Director of Nursing Education.

“The Nurse Educator Fellowship is
only awarded to those who demonstrate a real dedication toward
forwarding the field by sharing expertise that is most often
found with practitioners. Heartland is fortunate to have Nursing
faculty who not only have that experience but are motivated to
advance their knowledge and share it with future health care
professionals.” The
Heartland Community College Nursing program is accredited by the
Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Admission
is selective, and is offered annually to new students who qualify.
Advanced Placement is also available for Licensed Practical Nurses.
