Mount Pulaski had a trio of scorers hit
double-digits in the win: Alexis Wade (16), Alyson Murphy (14)
and Elayna Marten (10).
The Lady Toppers were guided in the first quarter by Wade and
Murphy, who scored seven and five points respectively. Marten
was 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the quarter while Kenzi
Chandler and Hailee Daigh each tossed in three-point baskets for
Mount Pulaski as the team held a 22-12 lead after the first
quarter.
Mount Pulaski increased the lead to 41-24 at the half as Murphy,
Marten, Chandler and Grace Davis all poured in threes.
It was a similar story in the third quarter, with the ladies
continuing to drain the three-point basket. Je’Na Rentmeister
added two 3s in the quarter and Davis and Murphy also connected
from long range. Mount Pulaski led 60-36 as the third quarter
came to a close.
The Lady Toppers got one more three in the game from Murphy in
the fourth quarter, bringing their team total to 13 3s on the
night. Mount Pulaski dominated the entire game and they walked
away with the 68-49 win.
The Lady Toppers won their opening game in the tournament last
week over the Springfield High JV team by a final score of
66-47. The tournament schedule then changed due to the winter
weather.
