NHL roundup: Coyotes end Avs' 10-game win streak

[February 02, 2022] Scott Wedgewood made 38 saves through regulation and overtime, then didn't yield a goal in the shootout, leading the Arizona Coyotes to a 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday in Denver.

The result ended the Avalanche's 10-game overall winning streak and their 18-game home winning streak. The Coyotes snapped a five-game losing streak.

Alex Galchenyuk scored a regulation goal and collected the only tally in the shootout, and Lawson Crouse also scored for Arizona.

Nazem Kadri and Mikko Rantanen had goals and Darcy Kuemper stopped 22 shots for Colorado.

Flames 4, Stars 3

Oliver Kylington came out of the penalty box to score the tiebreaking goal with 1:47 to play, and visiting Calgary erased a two-goal deficit by scoring three times in a 3:37 span to stun Dallas.

The Flames trailed 3-1 with less than 5 1/2 minutes remaining before tying the game by scoring twice in 37 seconds. Andrew Mangiapane made it 3-2 by scoring his 20th goal of the season -- 19th on the road -- with 5:24 to play, and Johnny Gaudreau tied it 3-3 with 4:47 to go.

Jason Robertson matched a career high with his 17th goal, and Joel Hanley and Jamie Benn also scored for the Stars, who had won five of their previous six games.

Capitals 4, Penguins 3 (OT)

Dmitry Orlov's second goal of the game came with 42.8 seconds left in overtime, lifting Washington to a victory at Pittsburgh. Nic Dowd and Daniel Sprong also scored for the Capitals, who have won two straight.

Vitek Vanecek started in goal for Washington but left in the first period, a bit after he and Pittsburgh's Kasperi Kapanen collided. Vanecek gave up one goal on two shots. Ilya Samsonov, in relief, made 43 saves.

Bryan Rust scored twice, Evgeni Malkin also scored, Jake Guentzel added three assists and Sidney Crosby had two assists for the Penguins, who lost their fourth straight (0-1-3). Tristan Jarry made 28 saves.

Predators 4, Canucks 2

Filip Forsberg scored two goals as Nashville entered the NHL All-Star break by defeating visiting Vancouver.

Ryan Johansen and Tanner Jeannot also scored for the Predators, who are 4-0-1 in their past five games. Juuse Saros, who will play for the Central Division during All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas, made 30 saves.

Matthew Highmore and Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for the Canucks, who went 2-1-1 on their four-game trip. Pacific Division All-Star Thatcher Demko made 24 saves.

Islanders 4, Senators 1

Oliver Wahlstrom scored the go-ahead goal midway through the second period and New York defeated Ottawa in Elmont, N.Y.

Anthony Beauvillier, Mathew Barzal and Adam Pelech also scored for the Islanders, who had lost their two previous games. Scott Mayfield had two assists, and Ilya Sorokin finished with 26 saves.

Nick Holden scored for the Senators, who are 1-2-1 in their past four games. Anton Forsberg made 26 saves.

Golden Knights 5, Sabres 2

Jonathan Marchessault, Brett Howden and Mark Stone each had a goal and an assist as Vegas grabbed sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division with a victory over Buffalo in Las Vegas.

Reilly Smith and Keegan Kolesar also scored goals for Vegas, which won for just the third time in its past eight home games. William Karlsson and Max Pacioretty each added a pair of assists, while Robin Lehner finished with 30 saves.

Alex Tuch, playing against the Golden Knights for the first time since being dealt to Buffalo in November as part of the Jack Eichel trade, scored for the Sabres, as did John Hayden. Craig Anderson made 30 saves for Buffalo, which was playing its third road game in four nights.

Flyers 3, Jets 1

James van Riemsdyk, Travis Konecny and Oskar Lindblom each scored to lift host Philadelphia over Winnipeg.

Following a franchise-worst 13-game losing streak, the Flyers have now won two in a row. Carter Hart made 32 saves.

Kyle Connor scored the lone goal for the Jets. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 33 shots.

Bruins 3, Kraken 2

David Pastrnak scored power-play goals in the second and third periods as part of a three-point night, lifting Boston past visiting Seattle.

Taylor Hall added a goal and an assist for Boston. Brad Marchand had two assists, and Linus Ullmark made 25 saves for the win. The Bruins, who went 2-for-3 on the power play, have scored 12 power-play goals in their past 10 games.

Seattle's Joonas Donskoi and Mason Appleton scored third-period goals to tie the game after Boston led 2-0 at the second intermission. Chris Dreidger stopped 23 shots.

Lightning 3, Sharks 2 (OT)

Victor Hedman scored an unassisted goal 2:45 into overtime as Tampa Bay beat visiting San Jose for its seventh win in nine games (7-1-1).

Anthony Cirelli and Alex Killorn also scored for the Lightning, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 19 saves.

Logan Couture scorefd and had an assist, and Rudolfs Balcers contributed his fourth goal in five games for the Sharks, who finished their four-game trip through the Southeast with a 1-1-2 record.

Maple Leafs 7, Devils 1

Mitchell Marner scored twice, giving him goals in seven consecutive games, and had two assists as Toronto completed a home-and-home sweep of New Jersey with the decision at Newark, N.J.

Auston Matthews, who had a hat trick in the Maple Leafs' 6-4 victory a day earlier in Toronto, had a goal and an assist, as did Pierre Engvall, Michael Bunting and David Kampf. Jason Spezza also scored for the Maple Leafs, who won their fifth in a row.

Jack Hughes scored the lone goal for the Devils, who have lost six in a row and nine of their past 10.

Rangers 5, Panthers 2

Chris Kreider scored twice on the power play to regain sole possession of the NHL goal-scoring lead and had an assist as New York headed into a two-week break with a victory over visiting Florida.

The Rangers, who have won 11 of 16 games, don't play again until Feb. 15. The victory was the 300th of Rangers coach Gerard Gallant's NHL career.

New York's Igor Shesterkin made 34 saves for his ninth win in 10 games. Anthony Duclair and Sam Reinhart scored for the Panthers, who saw their four-game winning streak end. Spencer Knight stopped 30 shots.
