Lincoln Arts Institute's first exhibit of the year opens with artist reception Thursday evening

[February 08, 2022]     The Lincoln Arts Institute will commence their 2022 exhibitions with a member show and opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 10th at the Lincoln Arts Institute, 112 S. McLean St, Lincoln.

The gallery will also be open on Friday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. throughout the month, with exhibiting artists on hand to discuss the works.

The open themed show allowed the artists to choose artwork of their preference.

Photographer Randy Washam tells the story for his title Silver Lining, “After several days of rain and a morning of hard rain our jeep tour was cancelled. Setting out on our own to try and make the most of the time, ended up being in the right place at the right time. The sun finally broke through to cast some beautiful light directly on the amazing Cathedral Rock, while the clouds and passing rain can still be seen. Reminded me of the old saying, every cloud has a silver lining. Although a little more golden in this case.” Another unique piece is presented by Bev Noble, who has been working with acrylic paint pour techniques and used blue tones across several canvases. She states that, “Tones is an important part of acrylic pours and seeing what works with what, which holds their tones and what to mix with others.”

New member, Nicole Kinney, who is going to Lincoln College for conservation biology states that she is drawn to nature and other little critters. She will show some paintings to depict the beauty of the landscapes and wildlife in our region. Numerous other LAI members, including Christopher Tice, Leigh Stricklin, Missy Block, Ashley Sanders, Thom Whalen, Stanley Bly, Sheralyn Bolton, Jeff Williams, Harold Chapman, and Jason Hoffman, will also have new creations on display.
 

After opening night, the artworks will be available for viewing and purchase on Friday evenings, Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and by appointment until March 5th. Also available at the February opening will be information on the March exhibition “Conversation”, which is a solo show of large-scale charcoal drawings on paper by Tony Crowley, former director of fine art at ISU.
