[February 14, 2022] Congratulations
to the LCHS Railettes Dance Team!
The LCHS Railettes Dance Team won the Illinois Dance Team Association (IDTA)
2022 AA Pom Dance State Championship on Saturday, February 11, 2022. The
competition was held at the BOS Center in Springfield and after
competing early in the day, the ladies had to wait patiently until
Saturday evening to find out the results. With the results being
announced at 8:30 p.m., the Railettes were named State Champions in the
Poms category.
The Railettes also won the 2020 State Championship under the direction
of Brande Montgomery-McCree.
This 2022 State Championship was won under the leadership of Jean
Meinershagen. Meinershagen is in her second year coaching the team and
she’s doing an amazing job with this very talented group of girls.
After the big win, Meinershagen said, “I'm so proud of the work this
group of girls put in to get here. Last season was all virtual, so it
was nice to get back to competing in person and getting back in front of
a crowd.”
A healthy dance team played a big part in this season’s success.
“We are so thankful we were able to avoid Covid all season and were able
to compete with our entire team every week,” said Meinershagen. “Having
our complete squad each week played a big role in the Railettes placing
first and receiving state-qualifying scores at all four regional events
we attended.”
The girls won in impressive fashion, too.
“Not only did these girls bring home a 1st place State finish, they
scored almost 20 points over the 2nd place school!”
Meinershagen was also grateful for the help others provided during the
season.
“A special thanks to goes former Railette coach Brande Montgomery-McCree
for coming back to choreograph our routine for us, as well a former
Railette Brianna Lanning for all her help getting the girls ready for
competition. Many other former Railettes lent their expertise, talents,
and time throughout the season as well.”
“We are so proud to bring home another state champion trophy for LCHS
and the Railette Dance Program,” continued Meinershagen. “We are also
thankful for the support of our Athlete Director, Neil Alexander, and
the LCHS administration. It was nice to see Mr. Stricklin in the stands
yesterday cheering on the girls.”
