[February 16, 2022] The Miami Dolphins are on the verge of hiring longtime offensive coordinator and former Jacksonville interim head coach Darrell Bevell as passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, multiple outlets reported Tuesday.

Bevell, 51, who began the 2021 season as the offensive coordinator under Urban Meyer in Jacksonville, was tasked with picking up the pieces on a disastrous season after the team fired Meyer in December.

It marked the second straight year that Bevell was tasked with seeing out the end of a season as an interim coach. He replaced Matt Patricia for the final five games of the Detroit Lions' season in 2020 after serving as OC. Bevell has a 2-7 record as interim head coach.

Bevell interviewed for the Jags' permanent job, however the Jags ultimately hired Doug Pederson.

Bevell is a four-time offensive coordinator, starting in Minnesota from 2006-10. He spent seven seasons as the OC in Seattle from 2011-17.

The Dolphins are reportedly hiring Frank Smith as OC. Head coach Mike McDaniel says he intends to call the offensive plays.
