[February 17, 2022]  ELKHART -  Julia "Julie" E. Oberreiter Hill, 81, of Elkhart, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Medical Center.

Visitation: Friday, February 11, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Rosary:  4:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home

Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elkhart.

Obituary

Julia "Julie" E. Oberreiter Hill, 81, of Elkhart, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Medical Center.

Visitation will be Friday, February 11, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln. A Rosary Service will begin at 4:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elkhart.

Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lincoln. The cremains of Julie's best friend, canine companion Petey, will be laid to rest with her.

Julia Eileen Smith was born April 14, 1940, in Lincoln, the daughter of Ray and Virginia Hanahan Smith. She first married Walter James “Sonny” Oberreiter on January 6, 1962. She later married Lawrence "Larry" Hill on September 21, 2013. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2017.

Julie is survived by one son: Michael (Emily) Oberreiter; three daughters: Theresa (Jay Fritzsche) Clancy, Mary (Tom) Fine, and Donna (Rod) Boyd; seven grandchildren: Mackenzie Morrison, Jonathan Oberreiter, Haley Fine, Peyton Fine, Brandon Fine, Ryan Boyd, and Emma Boyd; two great-grandchildren: Brecklyn Morrison and Madison Morrison; four siblings: Ann Thoele, Mary Rudin, Raymond Smith, and Carolyn Pirrera.

Funeral Director

She was preceded in death by two brothers: John Smith and Charles Smith.

Julie graduated from Elkhart Community High School in 1958 and then St. John's School of Nursing in 1961. She worked for five years in neurology and extended care at St. John's Hospital, followed by 40 years at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in intensive care and then emergency services from which she retired in 2006.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and a former member of the Elkhart Fire Department Auxiliary. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles and reading. Above all else Julie valued spending time with her family.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or Elkhart Fire Department.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Peasley Funeral Home of Lincoln.
