MOUNT PULASKI
- Mary Ellen Pickett, 83, of Weston, WV, formerly of
Mount Pulaski, passed away at 9:07 a.m. Sunday January 30, 2022, at
United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV.

Obituary
Mary Ellen Pickett, 83, of Weston,
WV, formerly of Mount Pulaski, passed away at 9:07
a.m. Sunday January 30, 2022, at United Hospital
Center in Bridgeport, WV.
Mary Ellen was born on December 10, 1938, in
Chicago, to Vernon J. and Margaret M. King Smith.
She married Donald Wasik in 1960. He preceded her in
death in 1966. She then married Leroy Pickett in
1967. He preceded her in death in 1999.
Surviving are her children, Victor (Faye) Wasik of
Weston, WV, Lynnette (Ronald) Austin of Mobile, AL,
and Bernard Pickett (Virginia Shoub) of Mobile, AL;
her sister, Janice Ickes of Chicago, her brother,
Jay (Lorraine) Smith of Lemont, three grandchildren,
Stephanie (William) Bertrand, Nicholas (Jennifer)
Adkins and Brittany Stapleton; and three great
grandchildren Heyden, Adam, and James.
Mary Ellen was a homemaker. In her early years, she
worked at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant,
Pepperidge Farm Bakery and as a waitress at the
Mobile airport in Mobile, AL. She was a member of
the Lincoln Oasis Center and enjoyed her bingo,
fishing and bowling. |
Mary Ellen faithfully attended St.
John United Church of Christ in Lincoln, IL. She was
active with the Charity Guild; various Christmas
activities hosted by the church and enjoyed the
numerous bus trips she took with the Church.
Services for Mary Ellen will be at 11:00 a.m.
Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount
Pulaski, with Rev. Laurie Hill officiating.
Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. prior to
services. Burial will be at Steenbergen Cemetery,
Mount Pulaski.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
American Cancer Society, Relay for Life, or St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital.
