Dr. Amber Jordan Named Lincoln College Director of Disability Services
New Director Will Move Lincoln College Forward

 

[February 23, 2022]   Dr. Amber Jordan has been named Director of the Office of Disability Services (ODS) at Lincoln College.

Prior to her time at Lincoln College, Jordan spent five years as a behavioral disorder education teacher for District 27 in Lincoln.

She also spent several years teaching middle school and high school special education classes. Most recently, Jordan worked for The Baby Fold, a therapeutic day school, supervising the behavioral program.

Jordan was responsible for case management, professional development initiatives for educators, and providing necessary resources to students integrating back into general education classes.

“Amber has a great deal of experience working with at-risk students and providing strategic guidance to staff working with these populations, which is incredibly valuable to our campus community,” said David Gerlach, President of Lincoln College.

Jordan notes her first priority will be establishing professional development opportunities for Lincoln College instructors, including how resources and services should be provided in a higher education setting. She also plans to standardize the registration process for students needing accommodations.

“I hope to increase the availability of disability services and resources to better serve and support Lincoln College students,” said Jordan.

Lincoln College’s Office for Disability Services works to ensure students with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate in programs, courses, and activities. Qualified students may receive accommodations for housing, academics, and more to ensure full participation in campus life.

Lincoln College also offers the unique, personalized Access program, designed to support students with executive functioning challenges and assist in their transition to college. Through supportive, intense academic coaching, the Access program aims to develop each student to become independent and successful learners.

“I’m excited to implement the research from my dissertation and apply my findings and tools created to help students be successful,” said Jordan. Her dissertation focuses on resources for parents of students with autism and the challenges of transitioning into higher education.

Jordan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Buena Vista University, and both a Master of Arts and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lynn University in Boca Rotan, FL.

Apart from her new role, Jordan will continue serving as Lincoln College’s Assistant Diving Coach, a position she has held since 2015. Under her guidance, several Lynx athletes have broken diving records, qualified for nationals, and won the national championship.
