[January 04, 2022]  LINCOLN - LaVera “Lee” Barry, 96, of Lincoln Formerly of Hartsburg passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Copper Creek Cottages in Lincoln.

Visitation:  Noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln

Service:  2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home

Obituary

LaVera “Lee” Barry, 96, of Lincoln Formerly of Hartsburg passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Copper Creek Cottages in Lincoln.

LaVera was born on April 29, 1925 in Emden, the daughter of John and Margaret (Menssen) Rohlfs. She married Marvin Barry on December 19, 1947 in Atlanta. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1997.

LaVera is survived by her daughters, Nina (Wes) Huddlestun, Brenda (Bob) Gleason, and Barbara (Jim) Chaney; her brothers, Kenneth and James Rohlfs; her grandchildren, H.E. (Angela) Westen, Taylor Chaney, Eric (Heather) Gleason, and Kelli (Brandon) Evans; her great-grandchildren, Alayna Briggs, Mia Westen, Sophie Gleason, Maggie Gleason, and Beckham Evans.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and four brothers.

 

LaVera was an avid Cubs fan, she lived to see them win a World Series. She loved to bake and collected cookbooks; she also enjoyed traveling. LaVera was a great party planner, she enjoyed being with people and was a member of the Emden Dance Club for many years. She was the founding member of the Hartsburg MNO (Mother’s Night Out) Pinochle Club. LaVera could often be seen walking for exercise around town and out in the country. She was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Services for LaVera will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Visitation will take place two hours prior to the service (12:00 Noon-2:00pm). Burial will follow the services at Hartsburg Union Cemetery in Hartsburg.

Memorial donations may be made in LaVera’s name to The Alzheimer’s Association.
