[January 09, 2022] The
Lanphier Lions slid into town Saturday night and caught the Railers
on an extremely cold shooting night at
Roy S. Anderson and the end result featured the Lions on top
42-32.
Lanphier skated out to a 3-0 lead but it didn’t take Camden Nelson long
to give Lincoln the lead. Nelson’s three in front of the Lions bench
tied the game and then his next three gave Lincoln a 6-3 advantage. A
dunk by Tye Banks fired up the Lanphier crowd, with the score now 6-5.
Payton Cook’s basket and the ‘and one’ stretched the Lincoln lead to
9-5. After a Lanphier miss at the buzzer, the Railers held onto that 9-5
first quarter lead.
Baskets by Banks and Randy Rice, Jr. tied the game in the second
quarter. A free throw by Rice would actually put the Lions on top 10-9.
Lincoln was able to jump in front 11-10 for a hot minute after Nelson
collected the rebound on his own missed three and he quickly tossed it
back up and in for two points. That basket would be the only one to go
through the net for Lincoln in the second quarter. Freshman JaiQuan
Holman would sink back-to-back threes for the Lions to close out the
second quarter scoring. Lanphier jogged to the locker room with a little
more pep in their step, holding on to a 16-11 lead over Lincoln.
The Railers tried to rally in the third quarter, edging the Lions 8-7 in
the scoring column. A layup from Jake Bivin and two threes from Elijah
Pollice attributed to the offense and at the end of three quarters of
action, Lincoln trailed 23-19.
The Railers desperately played catch-up in the fourth quarter. Midway
through the quarter, Lincoln still trailed 31-26 after a bank shot from
Cook. But with the likes of Banks and Rice, along with their supporting
cast pouring the baskets in, the Railers found themselves on the losing
end of this one, 42-32 the final score.
Elijah Pollice led Lincoln with 12 points.
Tye Banks led all scorers with 15 points. Randy Rice, Jr. tossed in 12
points for Lanphier.
The Railers fall to 14-2 on the season.
