[January 08, 2022] The Lincoln Railers picked up another huge Apollo Conference win on the road Friday night against the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs. The game was tied at the half but an outstanding second half by the Railers allowed Lincoln to remain undefeated in the Apollo Conference with a 47-33 win.

Elijah Pollice started the scoring for the Railers, as he opened the first quarter action with a three from the top. The Bulldogs were quick to take over a 4-3 lead. Jake Bivin tied the game with a free throw. Then it was Camden Nelson breaking the tie with his first three of the game, 7-4 the score. Payton Cook scored the next six points for Lincoln, finishing the quarter off with a baseline jumper to give the Railers a 13-5 lead.

A quick but kind of miserable second quarter put the Railers in a 15-15 tie at the half with the Bulldogs. Lincoln’s only basket came at the hands of Cook on the inside on the assist from Drew Hayes.

The Bulldogs took a 17-15 lead early in the third quarter. But once the Railers tied the game 17-17 on a tip-in by Cook, Lincoln went on a surge. A three by Nelson at the 3:10 mark put Lincoln in front for good, 20-17 the score. Pollice followed with a three and then a drive through the lane to extend the lead to 25-18. Tyler Sasse added a three to make the score 28-21. Nelson’s three with the final seconds of the third quarter ticking away put the Railers in a double-digit lead, 31-21 the score.

Pollice would steal the show in the fourth quarter, literally with his steals and layups he would run the lead up to 35-21. Even on a miss he was able to get his own rebound and go up for two to put Lincoln ahead 37-21. With the Bulldogs struggling to even hit the rim in the fourth quarter, Lincoln would dominate the offense. With Bivin and Sasse adding baskets, the lead grew to 42-25 with around two minutes left to play. Pollice poured in Lincoln’s final five points in the game and with the Railers defense holding down the Bulldogs, Lincoln’s 47-33 win looked really good when it was all said and done.

Elijah Pollice had a great game overall and he led the Railers in scoring with 19 points. Payton Cook also reached double figures with 10 points.

Lincoln improves to 14-1 overall and 4-0 in the Apollo Conference.
