[January 18, 2022] The
Lady Railers visited the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs on Monday night in
an Apollo Conference matchup and it was not exactly a pretty game on
Lincoln’s end, as they suffered the 46-37 loss.
The Bulldogs raced out to a 12-0 lead to start the game. Lincoln would
finally light up their half of the scoreboard when Kloe Froebe sank two
free throws at the 2:35 mark. Froebe and Imagin Werner added buckets to
cut the lead to 14-6 with less than a minute to play in the first
quarter. Becca Heitzig would cut the lead in half with her free throw
and the score was 14-7 in favor of the Bulldogs as the quarter came to
an end.
Piper Whiteman came in off the bench to sink a three for Lincoln in the
second quarter and set the score at 14-10. With 5:22 on the clock it was
Whiteman again showing she’s got moves like Jagger and she poured in a
bucket in the lane against the big dogs to bring Lincoln to within a
basket, 14-12 now the score. After the Bulldogs’ Durbin Thomas hit two
threes and Ivy Juarez nailed a free throw, the Mahomet-Seymour lead was
on the rise again, 21-12 the score. With under a minute left in the
quarter, Froebe hit a three to make the score 23-15. The Bulldogs would
get the best of Lincoln right before the half as Cayla Koerner stole the
ball and scored a layup to put Mahomet-Seymour up 25-15.
Lincoln’s 4-0 run to start the third quarter was a welcome sight. But
the Bulldogs kept pace and after a three from Savannah Orgeron the score
was 30-19. Both teams played an even third quarter and Lincoln still
found themselves down 35-25.
The Lady Railers continue to hustle in the fourth quarter, but here’s an
example of how things continued to go: at one point Heitzig tosses up a
beautiful shot, the ball goes in the rim, spins around and around and
then back out. And then freshman Piper Whiteman fouls out for the first
time in her high school career, getting three fouls in just the fourth
quarter alone and with just over a minute left to play, she had to take
a seat. Froebe did manage to hit a couple 3s in the quarter and the Lady
Railers actually outscored the Bulldogs 12-11 here but that earlier
deficit of 12-0 to start the game was just too damaging to overcome. On
this night the Bulldogs played a better game and Lincoln was
experiencing some cold shooting and was definitely pushing some tired
bodies to the limit.
The Bulldogs win the Apollo Conference matchup by a final score of
46-37.
Kloe Froebe led all scorers with 21 points.

Lincoln falls to 17-3 overall on the season and 5-2 in the Apollo
Conference.
Mahomet-Seymour improves to 17-4 on the season.
The JV game was one of the most exciting games of the season, as Lincoln
won 57-48 in overtime over the Bulldogs.
The Lady Railers JV had a 13-6 lead in the first quarter and by halftime
Lincoln was holding a slim advantage with the score 20-19.

At the end of three quarters, Lincoln was still up 33-31.
The Bulldogs came out strong in the fourth quarter and took over the
lead. With 2:20 left to play in the game, the Bulldogs had a 41-37
lead and Lincoln was scrambling.
With just over a minute left to play Tori Geriets would give Lincoln
a 42-41 lead after she sank two free throws. A three from Kylie
Waldinger put the Bulldogs back on top, 44-42 the score. But with
22.0 seconds remaining, Jenna Bowman would sink two foul shots and
tie the game at 44-44. The two teams would head to overtime next and
this is where the Lady Railers really outplayed the Bulldogs. Piper
Whiteman got the Lady Railers off on the right foot with a three and
she was only getting started. She rattled off the next four points
for Lincoln from the free throw line and this put the Lady Railers
up 51-46. Jane Turner added a basket to make the score 53-46. With
Jenna Bowman going 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final
seconds, the JV team walked away with an impressive 57-48 win.

Lincoln placed four players in double-figures: Piper Whiteman (19),
Jenna Bowman (15), Tori Geriets (10) and Jane Turner (10).
Lincoln will play at Pana tonight. The JV game is scheduled for 6
