Mount Pulaski overcomes big deficit to defeat Midwest Central 85-71

[January 19, 2022] The Hilltoppers traveled to Manito Friday night to take on Midwest Central and the Hilltoppers quickly found themselves down 16-0 to start the game. With Lane Murphy pouring in eight first quarter points and Clay Aylesworth and Gavin Smith hitting threes, the Hilltoppers finished the quarter trailing 23-14. 

 

Murphy led the Hilltoppers with 13 points in the second quarter and Mount Pulaski trailed by a slimmer margin at the half, 38-33 the score.

 

Six Hilltoppers entered the scoring column in the third quarter and outscored the Raiders 26-16 to take over the lead. After Murphy poured in 12 points here the Hilltoppers were on top 59-54. 

 

Mount Pulaski kept pouring it on in the final quarter and scored 24 points as a team, with Murphy again leading the way with 9 points. The Hilltoppers fought hard to earn this win and finished on top 85-71.

 

Lane Murphy scored a career high 42 points. Clay Aylesworth added 11 points and Gavin Smith scored 10 points for Mount Pulaski.
