[January 21, 2022] The Railers had a make-up game with Mount Zion on Thursday night at Roy S. Anderson Gymnasium and the Braves made it a close game at the end. Lincoln managed to hold on and win the Apollo Conference game by a final score of 55-53.

The Railers led Mount Zion 17-13 after the first quarter as Aidan Gowin poured in seven points and Payton Cook tossed in six points.

Jake Bivin scored six points in the second quarter and Camden Nelson added a three to build the Lincoln lead to 26-16 at the half.

The Braves chipped away at the lead in the third quarter, yet still trailed 39-32.

The fourth quarter is where things got really interesting. A three by Mount Zion cut the lead to 39-35. Thankfully a layup by Bivin and a three by Elijah Pollice extended the lead to 44-35. A reverse layup by Cook set the score at 46-37 with 3:10 left to play. The Braves found a groove from three-point land and cut the lead to 46-40 with 2:48 left. With the Railers going 6-for-6 from the free throw line in a little over a minute, the Lincoln lead was 52-42 with exactly a minute to play. A three by Mount Zion cut into the lead but Bivin would quickly earn two of those points back as he stepped to the free throw line for Lincoln. With a technical foul called on Lincoln with just under thirty seconds left, the Braves sent Lyncoln Koester to the line to shoot two. Koester made those shots and with the Braves keeping possession of the ball, Koester was quick to make a three for his team. With 23.7 seconds left, Lincoln was clinging to a 54-50 lead over a very scrappy Braves team. Bivin would make one more free throw to stretch the lead to 55-50 but those Braves answered with another clutch three. Lincoln’s Tyler Sasse missed two free throws in the final seconds and with the Braves having one more shot, Koester’s attempt for the win fell short and Lincoln holds on for the 55-53 victory.

Jake Bivin led the Railers with 19 points. Bivin also had eight rebounds and four assists in guiding the Railers to the win. Elijah Pollice scored 11 points. Payton Cook contributed 10 points.

The Railers improved to 16-3 on the season. Lincoln is 5-0 in the Apollo Conference.

Mount Zion falls to 16-5 on the season and 3-4 in the Apollo Conference.

In the JV game, Lincoln won 49-41 over Mount Zion. Ki’on Carson led Lincoln with 14 points. Darren Stevens scored 12 points for the Railers.
