Marcus Johansson, Yanni Gourde, Colin Blackwell and Calle
Jarnkrok also scored for Seattle, and goalie Philipp Grubauer
made 28 saves.
It was the Kraken's third victory in their past four games and
their second over Florida this season, the first a 4-1 decision
on Nov. 27 in Sunrise, Fla.
The Panthers, who entered the game tied with two-time defending
Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay for the NHL lead with 61 points,
got a goal and two assists from Jonathan Huberdeau.
Anthony Duclair and Aleksander Barkov also scored for Florida,
which lost for just the second time in regulation in its past 13
games (10-2-1). Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 24 of 28 shots.
The Kraken scored three consecutive goals in the second period
to take a 3-1 lead before the Panthers tied it, as Huberdeau
scored on a power play and then set up Barkov to make it 3-3.
Appleton scored on a three-on-two break just 26 seconds into the
third period, taking a pass from Alex Wennberg and beating
Bobrovsky to the glove side from the edge of the right faceoff
circle to give Seattle a 4-3 advantage.
It remained that way until Jarnkrok scored into an open net with
19 seconds left.
Duclair opened the scoring at 4:57 of the first, when the
rebound of his shot went off the skate of Seattle defenseman
Carson Soucy and into the net.
Johansson tied it at 5:02 of the second, taking a drop pass from
Mark Giordano on a four-on-two break and putting a one-timer
from the left faceoff circle past Bobrovsky.
The Kraken took the lead and extended it with goals 17 seconds
apart. Gourde scored on a slap shot from the top of the left
faceoff circle at 10:02, then Appleton put a shot off the side
of the net that caromed out in front and went off Blackwell's
helmet and between the goalie's pads at 10:19.
