Mount Pulaski defeats Pawnee 74-58

[January 24, 2022] The
Hilltoppers traveled to Pawnee on Saturday afternoon to take on the
Indians. With the Hilltoppers continuing to have the hot hand
shooting, they walked away with a 74-58 win.
Aidan Schneider absolutely dominated the offense in the first quarter,
scoring 16 of the Hilltoppers 18 points to guide Mount Pulaski to an
18-11 first quarter lead. Schneider drained four three-point shots in
the first quarter.
Schneider was quiet on offense in the second quarter, but his teammates
made noise. Evan Cooper tossed in seven points and Lane Murphy scored
six points. Lucas Kuhlman added four points and Cullen Tyson made one
basket. This offensive explosion put the Hilltoppers in the lead, 37-21
at the half.
Cooper and Clay Aylesworth made it rain threes in the third quarter.
Each of them tossed in two threes, with Aylesworth firing off a
buzzer-beater a few steps over the center court line as the third
quarter came to a close. In addition, with Schneider and Murphy adding
to their point totals in the quarter, Mount Pulaski maintained a
comfortable 56-41 lead.
With Murphy and Schneider each scoring seven points in the fourth
quarter and Cooper adding four points, the Hilltoppers kept up their
pace of scoring 18 to 19 points a quarter and the win looked easy on
paper. Mount Pulaski dances to the 74-58 afternoon win over Pawnee.
Aidan Schneider led the Hilltoppers with 25 points. Lane Murphy scored
19 points and Evan Cooper was finding a groove with 17 points.
The Hilltoppers improved to 13-6 on the season.
The Mount Pulaski JV team won 60-36 over Pawnee. Ethan Payne led the
Hilltoppers with 21 points. Lamarion Solomon tossed in 12 points for
Mount Pulaski.
