Alex DeBrincat supplied two goals and an assist. Sam Lafferty scored his first goal this season and Dominik Kubalik and Brandon Hagel also scored for Chicago. Hagel added an assist, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 28 saves.

Robby Fabbri and Tyler Bertuzzi each had a goal and an assist while Pius Suter, Moritz Seider and Dylan Larkin added goals for the Red Wings.

Detroit pulled goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic (12 saved on 16 shots) for Calvin Pickard (18 saves on 21 shots) after the first period.

The Blackhawks hadn't scored three goals in the first period this season. They did one better than that while establishing a 4-0 advantage.

Kubalik scored his 10th goal at 10:24 of the period when a shot by Seth Jones squirted through Nedeljkovic's legs and across the crease. Kubalik then banged it home.

With Suter in the penalty box, Strome scored his first goal of the game. DeBrincat slid the puck from the left circle to Strome in front, and Nedeljkovic couldn't recover in time.

Strome's second goal and sixth this season came off a backhanded pass from Patrick Kane. Strome lifted the puck over the goaltender's right shoulder.

Strome became the setup man in the final minute of the period. He took a shot that Nedeljkovic saved, but the puck came right back to him. He passed it to Lafferty, who tapped it in.

Detroit answered with three second-period goals.

Fabbri scored an unassisted goal and Bertuzzi then knocked in his own rebound at 6:41 of the period to make it 4-2.

Suter scored from the slot with 13 seconds left in the period past a screened Fleury.

Strome achieved his hat trick at 6:10 of the third. With Suter again in the penalty box, Strome tipped in a Jones shot.

DeBrincat's 25th goal of the season, finishing off a three-on-one situation, gave Chicago a 6-3 lead.

Seider scored on a power play with 7:55 remaining. Larkin made it a one-goal game with a rising shot from the slot with 4:35 left.

However, Hagel scored 48 seconds later after a Detroit turnover, and DeBrincat ended all suspense with an empty-netter.
