passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022, at The Groves Center in
Lake Wales, Fla. |

Obituary
James E. Thean, 77, of Grayton Beach,
Fla., formerly of Springfield, passed away on
Monday, January 24, 2022, at The Groves Center in
Lake Wales, Fla.
James was born July 26, 1944, in Springfield, the
son of John E. and Mary E. Schmitz Thean.
Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Cherry of
Florida; one sister, Mary (Tom) Welch of Lincoln;
one niece and several nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one
brother, John T. Thean.
Jim was a member of St. Rita's Parish in Santa Rosa
Beach, Fla. He was a graduate of Little Flower
School and Griffin High School in Springfield and
the University of Illinois. He held a master's
degree from Purdue University and a PhD in atomic
chemistry from Florida State University. He enjoyed
traveling and fishing in his retirement. |
Memorial Masses will be offered at
Little Flower Church and at St. Rita's Church.
Memorials may be made to St. Rita's Church in Santa
Rosa Beach, Fla.
Peasley Funeral Home, Lincoln, is assisting the
family with arrangements.
