Friends and family of Rob and Jean Davis joined the pair on Saturday, June 25th for a ribbon cutting and grand opening event at their new business establishment in Mount Pulaski, Davis Dairy Bar.

The ribbon cutting event was hosted by the Mount Pulaski Community Association with Chairperson Michelle Hagenbuch taking the lead assisted by association member Tricia Aylesworth.

Also on hand was the niece of the couple and local community personality Renee’ Martin. On this day, Martin had agreed to take on the persona of an ice cream sundae and act as the dairy bar mascot.

Jean is also a well-known personality in Mount Pulaski as it was shared that she had just this year retired after several years teaching at Zion Lutheran School in Mount Pulaski.

Jean’s mom Mary Pope had years of photos of herself with kids and grandkids visiting the Dairy Bar.

Several of those pictures were now mounted on the interior wall of the walk up ice cream shop.

Hagenbuch addressed the large turnout of visitors noting that the Dairy Bar was not a new establishment in Mount Pulaski, it has been in business since 1956. She said that there have been a number of owners of the business, and now the Davis’ have taken on the business and breathed new life into it.

She noted that the Davis’s have put some effort into offering improvements including new paint, windows and order counters and improvements to the outdoor seating area.

Hagenbuch introduced Jean who spoke very briefly saying that she and Ron appreciated the support they had received from the community as well as family in their effort to take on a new project.

Hagenbuch and Aylesworth then assembled the group for the ribbon cut with Rob and Jean holding the scissors and doing the honors.

After the cut, all the guests were invited to step up to the window with the first 50 who did so getting free ice cream cones.

The Davis Dairy Bar serves soft serve ice cream in vanilla, chocolate or swirl and fruit based Dole whips. The menu includes shakes, sundaes, cones and other treats plus hamburgers, corn dogs, tenderloin, chicken, horse and pony shoes, and a large variety of sides and soft drinks.

The Davis Dairy Bar is located at 511 East Chestnut Street in Mount Pulaski and shares a parking lot with the new Johnson True Value Hardware Store. Hours are Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
