China's Xiyu Wang upset top-seeded Barbora Krejcikova of the
Czech Republic 6-1, 7-6 (1) in a first-round match in Budapest.
Krejcikova recorded eight double faults and converted only one
of her six break opportunities against Wang, who will face
Romania's Ana Bogdan in the second round of the WTA 250
clay-court tournament.
No. 2 seed Martina Trevisan of Italy won her second-round match,
6-4, 7-5 against Ukraine's Kateryna Baindl. Bernarda Pera upset
No. 5 Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus 7-5, 6-2. No. 6 Shuai
Zhang of China won 7-5, 6-1 against Georgia's Ekaterine Gorgodze.
No. 9 Anna Bondar of Hungary defeated Greece's Despina
Papamichail 6-2, 6-3. No. 4 Anhelina Kalinina retired after
losing the first set 6-3 to the Czech Republic's Katerina
Siniakova.
