Friday night fun at the 75th annual Emden Homecoming

[July 20, 2022]    Friday, July 15, on a balmy evening downtown Emden was filled with people there for the 75th Emden Homecoming. As always, homecoming provided an evening of fun for people of all ages.

The evening’s activities began with the popular chicken supper, served by members of Hartem High School FFA. Those who wanted traditional festival food could buy fries, ice cream or Nuthatch Hill BBQ.



The Emden Historical Society was open for the evening and displayed pieces of Emden history.



Youngsters enjoyed getting their faces painted or getting fish from a little tub. Bouncy houses, slides and climbing wall provided a great way for children to get their energy out. Other activities included basketball, ring toss and a dime toss.

Four-year-old Vincent said he loves the bouncy houses and winning prizes.

Eleven-year-old Starry, who was at her first homecoming, loved having her face painted, playing the ring toss game and climbing the rock wall.

Sons of the American Legion member Randy Baker has been helping with the homecoming since 1998. He likes seeing the joy and excitement on the young kids faces as they play games.

When it comes to games, Bingo remained a popular draw for adults who could win cash prizes up to $100.

Country band Square of the Roots provided the musical entertainment.

As the evening wore on, people continued to play games, listen to the band, dance around the square or just visit and reminisce while enjoying the nice breeze. A brief rainstorm brought Bingo to a halt earlier than usual. Once it stopped, those still downtown continued to enjoy themselves.



At the 75th homecoming, there were several long time Emden residents who have been to almost every homecoming and have fond memories of years past. For a few young ones there, it was the first of what will likely be many homecomings.

Friday was another great night of food, fun and festivities for the whole family. The fun continued Saturday with more garage sales, car cruise in, parade, kiddie tractor pull and evening activities.
