[June 01, 2022]
A Route 66 Cruise-in will be hosted by Atlanta Tourism on Sunday
June 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. downtown. The cruise-in will take
place on the 1926 alignment of U.S. Route 66, now Arch Street in
between Race and Vine Streets. The event is free to attend and may
be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Cruisers and
visitors can enjoy the cars and the iconic downtown scenery. It is
recommended that visitors bring a foldable chair if they would like
to sit. For those wishing to enjoy the cars and not participate,
there is ample parking at the Atlanta Public Library and in front of
the U.S. Post Office.
Situated midway on Illinois’ Mother Road, Atlanta is an iconic Route
66 stop for those traveling the road to Santa Monica. The car
cruise-in will provide both travelers and locals the ability to
display and view beautiful cars on a classic road. Visitors are
encouraged to come enjoy the cars, people, and food. Chubby’s Bar
and Grill will be providing a car cruise-in meal deal. Missy’s Sweet
Shoppe located inside the historic Palms Grill Café will be open for
cruisers to enjoy delicious baked goods and coffee. Cruisers are
welcome to arrive early as there will be an informal Cars & Coffee
event on Arch Street from 9am-10am.
