Lincoln American Legion Auxiliary Announces Essay Contest Winners

 

[June 09, 2022]   The Lincoln American Legion Post 263 Auxiliary believes in promoting patriotism and Americanism in our young students. With the Americanism Essay Contest, it is felt that students have an opportunity to be part of an activity that enhances the ideals of Americanism, Patriotism and Good Citizenship.

This year, the topic was “Patriotism: How we are more alike than different.” Essays were received from students at Zion Lutheran School, West Lincoln-Broadwell School, and Lincoln High School.

The essays expressed, in general, that patriotism brings us together and every generation understands this ONE word. We should simply accept that we are ALL more alike than we are different.

One essay stated that our American dream and spirit make us believe in our country and that working together can help us work past the differences and see the similarities. Others used examples of celebrating our holidays, honoring our flag and our veterans and voting can be patriotic ways in which we all show our patriotism together. Another good example is that when people are in need, we come together as Americans to help.

Wiat Miller placed 1st at the local 11th and 12th-grade level and also placed 3rd in District 17. Bailee J. Pineda placed 2nd locally.

At the 7th & 8th-grade level, West Lincoln-Broadwell student Shreya Patel placed 1st locally and 3rd in District 17.

WLB students Marin Luckhart placed 2nd, and Myah Bowman placed 3rd.

Each student was given a certificate, a gift card from Abe’s Carmelcorn, and a monetary award.
