A Fly-In and Pancake Breakfast at the Havana Regional Airport is set for Saturday, June 18 and the public is invited.

Among the aircraft expected will be the big air tractors that farmers depend on.

Breakfast will be served from 7 to 10 a.m.

In addition to the aircraft flown in by area pilots, the event will feature World War II re-enactors.

Airplane rides for hire will be offered from 9 a.m., to noon.

Improvements continue to be made with new hangars, a picnic shelter, observation tower and new bathrooms.

EAA President Evan Houghton noted that the traditional Young Eagle Flights for those ages 8 to 17 will be offered in August.

The club also plans to return to the Oktoberfest with their Rotators Booth and will be scheduling a Star Gazing event later in September.

“This airport is part of our community, and we want the community to feel they are a part, too,” Houghton added.

The event is hosted by Havana’s EAA Chapter 1420 which has named the breakfast and fly-in in honor of the late Harvey Tapscott who played a significant role in rescuing the airport around 2000 on a volunteer basis.

By 2007 the facility had been transformed into the Class B Airport of the Year for the state of Illinois.
