On Saturday morning, the Central Illinois
Veterans Commission hosted a community work day at the building site
of the third veteran tiny home project in Lincoln. The work day was
the official beginning of construction on home number three though
work had begun earlier in the week with smaller groups.

The Saturday morning event brought in several
volunteers and CIVC Director Joe Schaler said he was hopeful that by
the end of the day there would be exterior walls and a roof on the
building site.
As of Saturday the recipient of the third home has not yet been
determined. Schaler said the goal was to do the basic work of
creating a building. Then, after the recipient is determined that
person will have input on interior floors and colors and work will
continue.
Schaler said that this is a good plan to start the home in good
weather conditions then if the weather turns bad later, the interior
will be dry and work can proceed inside.

He also noted that the 2X4’s of Hope Group is doing
the same thing. They are building shells and then doing finish work
later.
Schaler said he thought the selection committee would probably make
a decision this week as to the next recipient.
