On Saturday afternoon the second of two Route 66 Car
Cruise in events was hosted at the Mill on Route 66 Museum by the
Logan County Tourism Bureau.
The event saw a large turnout of vehicles as many people came
together to enjoy what they love best – cars. The variety of
vehicles included new makes and models, middle-aged classics and a
few oldsters commonly called antiques.
According to LCTB Director Alice Roate, more than 40 vehicles
participated in the event.
A tent set up at the front entrance of the Mill afforded collectors
an opportunity to register their vehicles for the show, purchase
50/50 tickets for a drawing later or get entered into a raffle for
some excellent, mostly car and cruise related items.
Raffle items were donated by Graue Chevrolet, Napa Auto Parts,
Guzzardo’s, Auto Zone, Jim Xamis Ford, Lincoln Chrysler Dodge Jeep
Ram, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Neal Tire, and Small Town Creations.
The Mill Museum was open for tours and purchasing souvenirs. LCTB
Assistant Lexi Groves and her sister Izzy helped man the gift shop
and answer questions about the exhibits inside the museum.
Outside, Director Roate was busy keeping track of all the cars and
making sure everyone was registered, parked, and made to feel
welcome.
Outside vehicles were filling the back lot and overflowing onto the
streets adjacent to the green space. Car owners gathered in the
shady spots and swapped stories about their collecting additions.
Several visitors enjoyed checking out the cars, and calling up their
own memories of cars they may have owned that resembled one
exhibited.
When it got warm, the Traveling Top Hat was on hand to offer up some
cooling ice cream for those seeking a cool down and a sweet treat at
the same time.
At the end of the day, judging of all the cars present took place
and winners were named. Trophies were given out for the Tourism
Choice, Cruise Staff Choice and Mayor’s Choice.
