State Senator Sally Turner (R-Beason) issued the following
statement upon learning of the United States Supreme Court’s
decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which
vacates the Roe. v. Wade decision of 1973 and returns the issue
back to the states:
“As a mother and woman of faith, I believe in the sanctity of
life and believe it is our duty to protect the unborn children
who cannot protect themselves.
“Today’s court decision returns the issue of abortion back to
the people’s elected representatives who can now choose to
fulfill that duty. However, unfortunately, in Illinois this
decision is set to have no impact. All of the unpopular and
extreme abortion laws on our books are still in place. That
means a minor can still get an abortion without notifying their
parents. It means an abortion can take place at any time for any
reason even if during late-term pregnancy.
“Now the Majority Party are going to ignore these facts and will
push for even more unpopular abortions laws as we have already
seen by Gov. JB Pritzker calling for a special session on
abortion.”
