[March 02, 2022]   On February 18, 2022, Judge Jonathan Wright sentenced Michael Smith (d.o.b. 10-28-1985) of the 100 block of Webster Drive in Lincoln, Illinois to 12 years in the Department of Corrections.

On December 10, 2021, Smith pleaded guilty to Unlawful Delivery of Controlled Substance, a Class X felony. During the sentencing hearing, Logan County State’s Attorney Bradley Hauge presented evidence that the Lincoln Police Department and the Central Illinois Enforcement Group conducted multiple covert narcotics investigations involving Smith selling drugs. During the investigations Smith had sold, or offered to sell, cocaine, LSD, ecstasy, and cannabis in bulk amounts.

This was Smith’s fifth felony conviction, having previously committed the offenses of residential burglary, unlawful delivery of cannabis, aggravated battery, and unlawful possession of cannabis.

“This defendant sought to profit from selling dangerous drugs in this community and referred to it as his ‘work’”, said State’s Attorney Hauge. “Smith is very knowledgeable about the drug trade.

"He attempted to insulate himself by selling the drugs out of another’s home and acted as a supplier to other drug dealers.

This sentence should put everyone on notice that dealing drugs in Logan County will have severe consequences.” Smith was given 10 days credit toward his sentence for the time he spent in pre-trial detention.

Pursuant to Illinois law, Smith must serve at least 50% of his sentence, followed by 18 months of mandatory supervised release.
