Obituary
Margaret Irene Crabtree, 99, of
Lincoln, Illinois passed away on Monday, February
28, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital,
Springfield.
Margaret was born August 30, 1922, in rural Hidalgo.
She was the daughter of Riley Nelson and Neoma May
(Myers) Brooks. She married Walter J. Crabtree,
October 4, 1942, in Mattoon. From this union two
children were born, Walter, and Jane.
Margaret was the youngest of six children, having
grown up on a farm Southeast of Hidalgo.
Margaret graduated from Newton Community High
School, Newton, in 1941.
Margaret was a member of the First Alliance Church
in Mattoon. She was treasurer and secretary for the
WMPF, a lady’s group, and secretary of the church
board.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Jane Anne
Edwards; five grandsons, Walt Crabtree III (Denice);
Mike Edwards; Scott Leach (Barbara); Kenny Edwards (Eni);
and Kyle Edwards. Two granddaughters, Alicia King
and Nicole Romine (Ryan). Eleven great-grandchildren
and three great-great-grandchildren, three step
great-grandchildren and five step
great-great-grandchildren. |
Those preceding her in death include
her parents, Riley and Neoma; five siblings, Wilma,
Vernon, Winnie, Bill and Bonnie, husband, Walter J
and son, Walter J. II.
A graveside service for Margaret will be held at
2:00pm on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Dodge Grove
Cemetery in Mattoon. Visitation will take place from
10:00-11:00am on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.

Operation Home Front.
