Obituary
Harry “Alan” Beavers of Springfield
and formerly of Hartsburg and Atlanta, passed from
this life on February 13, 2022, at 3:05 p.m., at
Memorial Hospital in Springfield. Alan fought a
brave battle for the last year with cancer, but
through Jesus Christ he won the victory and he is at
peace.
Alan was born October 21, 1951, in Moline, to Harry
L. and Shirley J. (Shelton) Beavers. He was a 1969
graduate of Hartsburg-Emden High School. Alan
accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized in
1968 at Emden Christian Church. He served in the
U.S. Army from February 1971 to February 1973. He
served with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment at Bad
Hersfeld, Germany.
He married Ida “Joyce” Birdwell on Oct. 20, 1973, in
Emden. She survives as does their daughter Wilma
Leigh (B.J) Atchison and their children Aeryahna,
Isaiah, Kennedy and Caleb of Lincoln. After their
divorce, he married Linda Bliven, June 18, 2004, in
Lincoln.
Alan is survived by his wife Linda of Springfield.
Surviving siblings are sister, Alice Steen of
Oxford, AR, sister Mary Ann (Kenneth) Andrews of
Mason City, brother William “Bill” (Sue) Beavers of
Constantine, MI, sister-in-law Cheryl Beavers of
Traverse City, MI. Also surviving are his extended
family including eleven nieces and nephews,
great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and
nephews, and cousins, and he loved them all. |
He was preceded in death by his
parents, sister Norma Jean and brother-in-law Edwin
Slinker and brother George R. “Bud”, brother-in-law
Ray Weekly, one niece and two great-nieces. Also
preceding him was his BFF, (Best Furry Friend)
Buddy.
Alan worked at Lincoln Developmental Center in
Lincoln, Barber Greene, in Aurora, Birdwell Grain
Elevator Millwright and Fabricating of Lincoln, IDOC
at Lincoln and Logan Correctional Center from which
he retired in 2005. He also worked seasonal at
Kohl’s Department Store in Springfield after his
retirement.
He loved spending time with all his family
especially, well, all of them! And his special time
was being at the farm with Buddy. When asked where
he lived, he would say, “on I55, between Springfield
and Atlanta”.
A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at 2:00
p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln,
with visitation one hour prior (1:00 -2:00 p.m.).
Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a
later date.
