Chafin, 31, can opt out after the 2022 season, per the reports.
He went 2-4 with a 1.83 ERA in 71 appearances in 2021 with the
Chicago Cubs and Oakland A's, who acquired him at the trade
deadline.
Chafin is 12-17 with a 3.30 ERA in 412 career appearances (three
starts) with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2014-20), the Cubs
(2020-21) and A's.
--The Texas Rangers have reached a deal with free agent
utilityman Brad Miller, according to reports.
No terms have been reported. The Rangers would be Miller's
seventh team in his nine-year career.
Miller, 32, hit .227 with 20 home runs and 49 RBIs in 140 games
last season for the Philadelphia Phillies. He played 58 games at
first base for the Phillies but has mostly played shortstop
throughout his career. He has at least 20 games played at every
position except for the battery.
--The Atlanta Braves re-signed outfielder Eddie Rosario, while
adding free-agent outfielder Alex Dickerson.
Rosario will return on a two-year, $18 million contract with a
club option for 2024. There is no buyout included. Dickerson was
signed to a $1-million non-guaranteed major league deal.
Rosario, 30, joined Atlanta from Cleveland at the trade deadline
and became the National League Championship Series MVP and a
World Series winner.
He batted .259 with 14 homers and 62 RBIs in 111 games between
the Indians and Braves in 2021. Rosario played his first six MLB
seasons with the Minnesota Twins, hitting .277 with 119 home
runs and 388 RBIs in 697 games from 2015-20.
Dickerson, 31, hit a career-best 13 home runs with a .725 OPS in
111 games for the San Francisco Giants last season and is a
career .260 hitter with 39 home runs and 130 RBIs over parts of
five major league seasons with the San Diego Padres and Giants.
--The Colorado Rockies added a pair of free agents, announcing
one-year deals with infielder Jose Iglesias and right-handed
pitcher Chad Kuhl.
Iglesias, 32, landed a deal reportedly worth $5 million. He
batted .271 with nine home runs and 48 RBIs for the Los Angeles
Angels and Boston Red Sox last season and is a .277 career
hitter with 44 home runs and 319 RBIs over 10 seasons with five
different teams.
Kuhl, 29, agreed to a reported $3 million deal after going 5-7
last season with a 4.82 ERA in 28 appearances (14 starts) with
the Pittsburgh Pirates. In five career seasons, all with the
Pirates, Kuhl is 25-30 with a 4.44 ERA in 100 appearances (84
starts).
--The Boston Red Sox signed left-hander Jake Diekman to a
two-year contract with a club option for 2024. The deal will pay
the reliever $4 million per season, according to MLB Network.
Diekman, 35, was 3-3 with seven saves and a 3.86 ERA in 67
relief appearances last season with the Oakland A's.
He is 20-25 overall with 14 saves and a 3.73 ERA in 529 games,
all in relief, with the Philadelphia Phillies (2012-15), Texas
Rangers (2015-18), Arizona Diamondbacks (2018), Kansas City
Royals (2019) and A's.
--The Los Angeles Angels agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.5
million contract with infielder Matt Duffy.
The 31-year-old appeared in 97 games for the Chicago Cubs last
season and hit .287 with 12 doubles, five home runs and 30 RBI.
He played 56 games at third base but also saw time at second
base, shortstop, first base and left field, as well as pitching
in one game.
For his career, Duffy is a .283 hitter with 86 doubles, nine
triples, 27 home runs, 199 RBI and 40 stolen bases in 549 games
with the San Francisco Giants (2014-16), Tampa Bay Rays (2016,
2018-19) and Cubs (2021).
--The Seattle Mariners signed first baseman Mike Ford to a
minor-league contract with an invitation to major league spring
training.
The 29-year-old has appeared in three major league seasons
(2019-21), all with the New York Yankees. In 101 major league
games, he is batting .199 with 41 runs, 11 doubles, 17 home
runs, 41 RBI and 35 walks. Ford spent the 2021 season in three
different organizations, including 22 games with the Yankees.
He had a previous stint in the Mariners organization, appearing
in 24 Cactus League games in 2018 after being claimed off
waivers by Seattle from the Yankees on Dec. 14, 2017, but was
returned to New York on March 24, 2018.
