A two-time All-Star with Colorado, Story was a hot commodity at
the trade deadline last season but wasn't dealt and turned down
the Rockies' one-year qualifying offer.
The New York Post reported the deal contains a player opt out
after four years, which would be negated if the Red Sox pick up
a seventh season for an extra $20 million.
The New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, Houston Astros and
Texas Rangers all reportedly were vying for his services.
Story likely will play second base in Boston with All-Star
Xander Bogaerts entrenched at shortstop.
Story, 29, batted .251 with 24 home runs and 75 RBIs in 2021. He
is a career .272 hitter with 158 homers, 450 RBIs and 100 stolen
bases in 745 games.
Called up by the Rockies in 2016, he smacked 27 home runs in 97
games as a rookie to solidify himself as a building block of the
franchise alongside Nolan Arenado, who was traded to the St.
Louis Cardinals before the 2021 season.
Story also has 865 strikeouts in 3,136 career plate appearances
and at least 130 whiffs in five of his six seasons.
