            [May 03, 2022]
When weather forecasters came close to giving a
nearly 100 percent chance of nasty weather on Saturday evening,
Lincoln Community High School Prom Grand March organizer Kathie
Williams along with Jim Ash and Loyd Kirby of WLCN radio in Atlanta
were forced to change direction. |

            | Typically, the grand march is held on the lawn of
the Logan County Courthouse, with utilization of the LCHS gymnasium
becoming the backup plan for inclement weather.

This year, the backup became the primary plan for the event. When
guests began arriving at around 4 p.m. it was quite windy but the
sun was shining from time to time. However, looking off toward the
western horizon there were dark clouds approaching.

And true to predictions, by the time guests exited the gymnasium at
around 6 p.m. it was pouring down rain, and obviously had been
			pouring for a while.

Inside the gymnasium, potted plants from Ace Hardware created a
walkway in the center of the gym, where prom attendees would be
			introduced by emcee Joe Ryan.

While the attendees were traversing the walkway, the mood was being
set with music provided by Ken Richert along with a special feature
for the evening, a fog machine that tossed a gentle cloud into the
			walkway as attendees were introduced.

Because the walkway was located in the middle of
the gymnasium, guests coming to watch the grand march were able to
utilize both sets of bleachers on either side of the room.

The bleachers were well populated with proud family members there to
enjoy seeing not only their own young adults all decked out for the
formal dancewear, but all those who traversed the walkway.

While most of the glitz and glamor was on the walkway, there were at
least two little ladies who may have been rehearsing, as they
watched the event all decked out in their own glittery outfits.

While Ryan was responsible for the introductions, Williams herself
was standing nearby addressing the young people as they came into
the gymnasium. She assured that each person, couple or group walking
the floral lined runway that they were the center of attention at
			the moment.

Carrying on the tradition of the late Jeff Maxwell, WLCN’s Ash and
Kirby were on hand to video the grand march which will be placed on
			the WLCN website.

Though it may not have been the original plan, the grand march in
the LCHS gymnasium was wonderful. The attendees clearly enjoyed the
attention and all were looking forward to heading on to the prom for
a fun filled and memorable evening.
