Peterman spent the past three seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. He
appeared in two games, completing three passes for 25 yards.
The 28-year-old spent the 2019 campaign on injured reserve due to an
elbow injury.
A fifth-round draft pick in 2017 by the Bills, he played two seasons
in Buffalo, where he appeared in eight games with four starts (1-3
record).
In his career, Peterman has completed 71 of 135 pass attempts for
573 yards. He's thrown for three touchdowns and 12 interceptions --
five of them coming in a disastrous start on Nov. 19, 2017, against
the Los Angeles Chargers.
In Las Vegas, Peterman played behind Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota.
In Chicago, second-year QB Justin Fields is the expected starter
with veteran Trevor Siemian signed earlier this offseason to serve
as his primary backup.
According to multiple reports, the Bears are on the verge of signing
wide receiver Tajae Sharpe to a one-year deal.
The 27-year-old Sharpe caught 25 passes for 230 yards in 15 games
(seven starts) for the Atlanta Falcons last season.
Sharpe was a fifth-round draft pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2016
and his rookie season has been his best campaign. He set career
highs of 41 receptions and 522 yards before missing the following
campaign due to a foot injury.
Sharpe caught a career-best four touchdowns in 2019. He had 92
receptions for 1,167 yards and eight touchdowns in 47 games (29
starts) with Tennessee.
Sharpe played in four games with the Minnesota Vikings in 2020 and
didn't catch a pass.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Bears will also sign
receiver Dante Pettis, a second-round pick out of Washington in
2018. Pettis, 26, has 52 receptions for 739 yards and nine
touchdowns in 33 games (12 starts) with the San Francisco 49ers
(2018-20) and New York Giants (2020-21).
Chicago also announced a waiver claim of tight end Rysen John and
the waiving of tight end Jesper Horsted with a failed physical
designation.
John, 24, was with the New York Giants for parts of the past two
seasons but never played in a game.
Horsted, 25, played in 13 games (one start) in three season with the
Bears. He caught two passes -- both for touchdowns -- in seven games
last season. Three of his 10 career catches have gone for scores.
