Mount Pulaski took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on
an RBI single to center by Chance Payne.
The Hilltoppers plated four runs in the top of the fourth
inning. Kolin Gibbs started the inning with a base hit to left
field. Evan Cooper and Liam Smith walked to load the bases for
Landon Smith. Landon Smith singled to center to advance the
runners a base, driving in Gibbs. After Jackson Fricke walked,
Cooper came trotting home with another Hilltopper run. Payne
added another RBI single to drive in Liam Smith. Clay Aylesworth
hit a fielder’s choice to the shortstop to drive in Landon Smith
and make the score 5-0.
Aylesworth added an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth
inning to give Mount Pulaski a comfortable 6-0 lead.
The Ducks plated their only runs in the bottom of the sixth
inning.
Mount Pulaski won the game by a final score of 6-2.
Gavin Smith (4-0) earned the win for Mount Pulaski. Smith
pitched outstanding over five and one-third innings. He allowed
just one earned run on two hits. Smith struck out 12 batters.
Liam Smith pitched the final inning and two-thirds, giving up
just two hits and striking out two batters.
The Hilltoppers were led offensively by Chance Payne and Clay
Aylesworth.
Payne was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Aylesworth was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Landon Smith, Liam Smith, AJ Bailey and Kolin Gibbs each had one
hit for Mount Pulaski.
The Hilltoppers improved to 19-4 on the season.
Mount Pulaski will host El Paso-Gridley today at 4:30 p.m. at
Veterans Park.
