Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb (5-1) allowed one run on
three hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out one.
Jordan Hicks (1-3) gave up three runs on three hits and two
walks with three strikeouts in five innings as the Cardinals
lost for the fifth time in six games.
Paul Goldschmidt drove in both Cardinals runs with an RBI
grounder and a solo homer while extending his on-base streak to
20 games.
Each team played small ball to score its first run.
St. Louis' Tommy Edman walked leading off the first inning and
stole second base. He took third on a wild pitch and scored on
Goldschmidt's groundout.
The Giants tied the game 1-1 in the second inning. After
Yastrzemski was hit by a pitch with one out, he moved up on a
groundout and advanced to third when Brandon Crawford reached
first while striking out on a wild pitch.
Luis Gonzalez followed with an RBI single to left field.
The Giants took a 3-1 lead in the third inning. Hicks hit
LaMonte Wade Jr. and allowed Brandon Belt's single. With two
outs, Yastrzemski hit a two-run double off the glove of center
fielder Harrison Bader.
In the seventh inning, Gonzalez hit a one-out single and Casali
drew a walk off Packy Naughton. Jake Walsh entered in relief and
walked Austin Slater to load the bases before striking out Belt
and retiring Wilmer Flores on flyout.
The Giants pushed their lead to on 8-1 in the eighth inning
against relievers Nick Wittgren and T.J. McFarland. Crawford hit
an RBI single, Longoria smacked a two-run double and Casali
launched a two-run homer.
Goldschmidt got one run back in the eighth inning with a solo
homer off reliever Zack Littell.
