New pavilion built in the old way goes up at Postville Park in Lincoln

 

[May 16, 2022]   On Wednesday, May 11th thanks to a partnership effort between the city of Lincoln and the Lincoln Community High School Woodshop class a new structure went up at Postville Park in Lincoln.

According to Lincoln Street Superintendent Walt Landers the project came about at the request of LCHS woodshop instructor Justin Dietrich. Dietrich approached the city asking if the students could put up a new pavilion at the park and would the city pitch in a bit.

Landers said Lincoln City Council approved the suggestion and provided the concrete pad for the new structure.

On Wednesday, the students spent much of the day putting up the framework of the pavilion. For this particular project, they went ‘old school’ as much as possible. A few wood screws were used in critical areas, but for the most part the building was put together with notched lumber and wooded spikes.

The structure was made in all pine wood milled at the Baker and Sons Sawmill.

The guys worked hard on a very hot day, taking a break for pizza for lunch then getting back to the project at hand.

By the end of the day the frame structure was completed and now proudly boasts the label of the class at its front end where “Railsplitter Woodshop” is burned into the crossbeam.

According to Landers a metal roof will be placed on the building and also the city will run electricity into the structure.

The city appreciates the efforts of the students of the LCHS Woodshop class and looks forward to seeing the community enjoy the new structure for years to come.
