Mount Pulaski had four walks and three singles in the first
inning. Jackson Fricke drove in the first two runs with his
single to center. Clay Aylesworth’s RBI single drove in another
run. Chance Payne scored a run on a wild pitch. Kolin Gibbs’
single to left scored two more Hilltoppers. Gibbs would steal
third and home, scoring the Hilltoppers seventh run of the
inning.
Payne’s RBI single in the top of the second inning stretched the
lead to 8-0.
Cornerstone scored their only run in the bottom of the second
inning.
Gibbs and Liam Smith added RBI singles in the top of the third
inning.
Mount Pulaski plated two more runs in the top of the fifth
inning. Lucas Kuhlman, Kolin Gibbs and Evan Cooper consecutively
hit doubles to drive in enough runs to potentially end the game
early.
Gibbs pitched the bottom of the fifth inning for Mount Pulaski
and he retired Cornerstone on two strikeouts and a ground out
and just like that it was time to board the bus home.
Mount Pulaski won the game by a final score of 12-1.
Luke Farris (2-0) earned the win for Mount Pulaski. Farris
tossed four innings and gave up just one run on three hits. He
struck out one batter and walked one.
Kolin Gibbs pitched an inning in relief. He struck out two
batters, throwing only 12 pitches in the inning.
Mount Pulaski had a handful of players with a big day at the
plate.
Kolin Gibbs was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored.
Gibbs swiped two bases.
Jackson Fricke was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Lucas Kuhlman was 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
Evan Cooper, Liam Smith, Landon Smith, Chance Payne and Clay
Aylesworth each had a hit for Mount Pulaski.
Mount Pulaski improved to 21-4 on the season.
