Railsplitters split doubleheader with Mattoon

[May 18, 2022]    Lincoln played at Mattoon on Tuesday afternoon and the Railsplitters won game one by a final score of 5-2 while the Green Wave took game two by a final score of 3-2.

 

Game One 

 

Lincoln 5

An RBI single in the first inning by Andrew Graue allowed the Railsplitters an early 1-0 lead.

 

In the top of the second inning, Lincoln added two more runs. An RBI single by Michael Lucas put the Railsplitters in front 2-1. A ground out by Daulton Miller drove in Jake Baker to make the score 3-1.

 

In the top of the fifth inning, Jaden Leadley drove in two runs with his base hit to center and the Railsplitters held a 5-1 lead.

 

The Green Wave scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning but the Railsplitters would hold on to win 5-2.

 

Wyatt Mammen earned the win for Lincoln. He worked five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out six batters and walked three.

 

Trent Koehler earned the save for Lincoln. He pitched one and one-third innings, allowing one hit and striking out one batter.

 

At the plate, Trent Koehler, Jaden Leadley and Alex Hoffert each recorded two hits. 

 

Sean Raffa, Andrew Graue and Michael Lucas each had one hit for Lincoln.

 

Game Two

The Railsplitters took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning on run-scoring ground outs by Daulton Miller and Sean Raffa. A hit by pitch to Jake Baker and a double by Colbie Glenn had started the inning off on a good note for the Railsplitters. 

 

The Green Wave tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

 

The game would go to extra innings with the Green Wave scoring the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning and edging the Railsplitters 3-2.

 

Andrew Graue started the game for Lincoln. Graue went three and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out four batters and walked one.

 

Trent Koehler took the loss for Lincoln. He pitched four and two-thirds innings. He allowed one run on two hits. He struck out five batters and walked two. 

 

Sean Raffa pitched one-third of an inning and struck out two batters. 

 

Colbie Glenn and Alex Hoffert had the only two hits in the game for Lincoln.

 

The Railsplitters finish the regular season with a 15-13 record.

 

Friday night at 6 p.m. the Railsplitters will take on Alton  Marquette Catholic at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

 

Gates open at 5 p.m. and the game is free to the public.
