[May 18, 2022]    Mount Pulaski and New Berlin faced off in a pitcher’s duel Saturday morning, with the Pretzels scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and winning by a final score of 1-0.

A single by Clay Aylesworth in the fifth inning was the Hilltoppers only hit in the game.

Mount Pulaski’s Liam Smith was involved in the pitcher’s duel with New Berlin’s Lucas Bixby for five innings.

The 0-0 score lasted until the bottom of the sixth inning, when a lead-off walk came back to haunt the Hilltoppers. Isaac Long then crushed a line drive to left to drive in New Berlin's only run.

The Hilltoppers were retired 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh inning.

Liam Smith (2-1) pitched a great game even though he took the loss. The freshman threw five and one-third innings, allowing one run on three hits. He struck out four batters and walked two.

Landon Smith pitched the final two-thirds innings, allowing one walk.

Mount Pulaski ends the regular season with a 21-5 record.

The Hilltoppers will begin regional action on Wednesday at Veterans Park in Mount Pulaski.
