After getting a taste of postseason success last
year in track and field state competition at EIU, the LCHS girls
track and field team set a goal to return to Charleston and came
up with their own slogan, #backtobluein22. A year later, here
the girls are again with more experience, more determination and
another fantastic freshman in the mix.
Reese McCuan (senior), Becca Heitzig (sophomore),
Alyssa Company (sophomore) and Mallory Short (freshman) will
represent Lincoln Community High School today in the prelims at
State with the finals scheduled for Saturday.
These four girls qualified for State on May 11,
2022 at the Dunlap Sectional.
The impressive results from Sectionals are as
follows:
Becca Heitzig ~ 800m (1st Place - 2:14.06)
Reese McCuan ~ Triple Jump (1st Place - School
Record 11.24m)
Mallory Short, Reese McCuan, Alyssa Company,
Becca Heitzig ~ 4x400m Relay (2nd Place - PR 4:03.60)
Mallory Short also earned a 4th place medal in
the 400m at Sectionals with a time of 1:01.23.
The approximate schedule for today will feature
Reese McCuan in the triple jump after the 8:00 a.m. long jumpers
are finished.
At approximately 10:15 a.m. Becca Heitzig will
run the 800m.
The 4x400m Relay will run at approximately 11:30
a.m.
Again these are the prelims to qualify for the
finals on Saturday.
