The Giants, who snapped a five-game losing streak, led 8-2
entering the seventh inning but fell behind 11-8 when the Mets
scored seven runs in the top of the eighth. Francisco Lindor's
three-run triple capped New York's big frame.
Pederson, the first Giants player to hit three homers in a game
since Alex Dickerson on Sept. 1, 2020, hit two-run shots in the
third and fifth innings. Darin Ruf had an RBI groundout in the
first, and San Francisco's Tommy La Stella hit a three-run homer
in the fourth.
Lindor drove in six runs, and Starling Marte and Jeff McNeil
each had three hits for the Mets.
Athletics 7, Mariners 5
Jed Lowrie and Elvis Andrus hit home runs as Oakland snapped a
13-game losing streak against Seattle.
Tony Kemp led the A's with three hits and three runs. Lowrie
drove in three runs, and Andrus scored twice.
Ty France drove in three runs and Julio Rodriguez homered for
the second consecutive night for the Mariners, who lost for the
fifth time in six games. Kyle Lewis, the 2020 American League
Rookie of the Year, tallied two hits in his season debut.
Diamondbacks 8, Royals 6
Jordan Luplow's pinch-hit, three-run home run and Pavin Smith's
two-run blast highlighted a five-run sixth inning as Arizona
rallied to beat Kansas City in Phoenix.
Daulton Varsho led off the game with a homer and David Peralta
also hit a solo homer for the Diamondbacks, who have won five of
six. Mark Melancon earned his 10th save.
MJ Melendez hit a two-run homer and Dairon Blanco drove in two
runs for the Royals, who have lost six straight games.
Braves 6, Phillies 5
William Contreras singled home the winning run as Atlanta scored
twice in the ninth inning for a frenetic walk-off victory
against visiting Philadelphia.
The Phillies had taken the lead in the top of the ninth on Bryce
Harper's 438-foot, two-run homer off Atlanta closer Kenley
Jansen. It was Harper's 10th homer of the season and 38th of his
career against the Braves -- his highest total against any
opponent. Harper finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs.
In the bottom of the ninth, Atlanta's Dansby Swanson led off
with a double and went to third on a wild pitch. Swanson scored
when Ronald Acuna Jr.'s sacrifice fly was misplayed into a
two-base error by center fielder Roman Quinn. Acuna scored on
Contreras' liner to center.
Red Sox 16, White Sox 3
Enrique Hernandez homered on the first pitch of the game and
Trevor Story, Rafael Devers and Christian Vazquez also went deep
as visiting Boston routed Chicago for its season-high sixth
straight victory.
The Red Sox out-hit the White Sox 19-6 while achieving season
highs for runs and hits by the fifth inning. J.D. Martinez led
the way with four hits while Vazquez had three hits and four
RBIs and Story had two hits and four RBIs.
Nick Pivetta (3-4) allowed three runs in six innings for the
win. Dylan Cease (4-2) was pounded for seven runs in three
innings.
Yankees 7, Orioles 6 (11 innings)
Jose Trevino drove in the winning run with an 11th-inning
single, lifting New York over visiting Baltimore.
Trevino went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, Gleyber
Torres homered twice and Anthony Rizzo also went deep for the
Yankees, who ended a season-high, three-game losing streak.
Jordan Montgomery threw six-plus innings, allowing two runs and
four hits.
Baltimore's Rougned Odor drove in four runs, including three on
a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning. Austin Hays also
homered, and starter Bruce Zimmermann allowed four runs and six
hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Dodgers 9, Nationals 4
Mookie Betts hit two home runs and Walker Buehler tossed six
strong innings to power Los Angeles to a victory at Washington.
Buehler (6-1) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits to go
along with three strikeouts and two walks. Trea Turner and Chris
Taylor added two-run homers for the Dodgers.
Nelson Cruz finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs for the Nationals,
who also got three hits from Dee Strange-Gordon. Josiah Gray
(4-4) gave up seven runs in three innings.
Twins 2, Tigers 0
Sonny Gray struck out 10 in seven scoreless innings, and
Minnesota held on to blank visiting Detroit in Minneapolis.
Gio Urshela and Carlos Correa notched one RBI apiece for the
Twins, who won their sixth game in a row. Gray (2-1) limited the
Tigers to four hits and one walk while notching double-digit
strikeouts for the first time this season.
Tigers rookie Beau Brieske (0-4) remained winless to start his
big-league career. He allowed two runs on six hits in four
innings.
Rays 4, Marlins 0
Kevin Kiermaier hit the first pitch Tampa Bay saw for an
inside-the-park home run, Shane McClanahan logged six scoreless
innings and the Rays blanked Miami in St. Petersburg, Fla.
McClanahan (4-2) allowed four hits and two walks and notched
nine strikeouts. Dusten Knight (two innings) and Ryan Thompson
(one inning) finished the shutout. Harold Ramirez and Ji-Man
Choi added home runs for the Rays.
Garrett Cooper went 2-for-4 and Jacob Stallings was 2-for-2 to
account for all but one of the Marlins' five hits. Pablo Lopez
(4-2) gave up four runs but fanned eight in seven innings.
Cubs 11, Reds 4
Frank Schwindel homered twice and drove in three runs, while
three of his teammates had two RBIs apiece as visiting Chicago
routed Cincinnati.
Marcus Stroman (2-4) held the Reds to two runs and four hits
over five innings. Stroman struck out eight and walked two for
the Cubs, who won their third straight after a four-game losing
streak.
Tyler Naquin homered and had three hits for the Reds, who lost
for the fourth time in five games.
Rockies 2, Pirates 1 (10 inning)
Connor Joe's RBI single in the top of the 10th inning led
Colorado to a win over Pittsburgh.
Rockies starter Kyle Freeland didn't give up a hit until the
fifth inning, allowing one run and two hits. He had six
strikeouts and two walks in 4 1/3 innings. Daniel Bard (2-2) got
the win.
Though Pittsburgh starter Roansy Contreras threw five scoreless
innings (three hits, five strikeouts, two walks), the Pirates
lost for the fourth time in five games.
Angels 5, Rangers 3
Noah Syndergaard pitched eight strong innings, Jared Walsh
homered and doubled, Brandon Marsh had three hits and Los
Angeles beat Texas in Anaheim, Calif.
The eight innings marked the longest outing for Syndergaard
(4-2) since he returned from Tommy John surgery late last season
and his longest since he went eight innings on May 14, 2019.
Raisel Iglesias got the last out to earn his 11th save.
Jonah Heim homered for the Rangers. Texas starter Dane Dunning
(1-3) allowed five runs on 11 hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Astros 7, Guardians 3
Framber Valdez (4-2) led Houston to a win over visiting
Cleveland, allowing seven hits, three runs, striking out four
and walking none over seven innings.
Kyle Tucker's three-run home run in the fifth inning was his
first on home turf, bringing his total to eight overall.
Cleveland's Zach Plesac (1-4) had a promising start, retiring
the first eight batters faced, but he was taken out after 4 2/3
innings. He yielded seven runs on nine hits and one walk with
five strikeouts.
Brewers 4, Padres 1
Tyrone Taylor greeted reliever Craig Stammen with a three-run
homer in the sixth inning, leading Milwaukee to a victory at San
Diego.
Corbin Burnes (2-2) held the Padres to one run on five hits and
two walks with five strikeouts over six innings. San Diego
starter Blake Snell (0-2) was charged with three runs on three
hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
Mike Brosseau collected three of the Brewers' five hits. Manny
Machado and Eric Hosmer each had two hits for the Padres.
Blue Jays 8, Cardinals 1
Visiting Toronto had a dominant game, snapping St. Louis'
four-game win streak and splitting the two-game series.
Danny Jansen hit two homers and drove in four runs. Vladimir
Guerrero Jr. also went deep for the Blue Jays. Toronto's Kevin
Guasman (4-3) pitched six scoreless innings, allowing four hits,
two walks and striking out eight.
Cardinals starter Jordan Hicks (1-4) was tagged for four runs on
four hits and five walks in three-plus innings. He fanned three.
