[May 27, 2022]    Lincoln Public Library District launched its Read Beyond the Beaten Path summer reading program on May 23 with registration. During the next two months, the library will host a range of free activities for children, teens, and adults to encourage and support a love of reading. Participants can win prizes or be entered into prize drawings for reaching their reading goals.

We've planned a wonderful program for kids to make the library a great place to read, learn, and discover what's available for their enjoyment.

Most of this years' activities will be indoors.

The Lincoln Public Library is located at 725 Pekin St., with adult nonfiction and reference materials in the historic Carnegie Building. The Annex directly behind houses adult fiction and the Youth Services Department.

All library events are free and open to the public.

This year we have introduced brag tags to our prizes for our non-readers and readers ages 6 months to 11years old. Get your first brag tag when you register and one each week you turn in a book log along with other prizes as you reach your final goal of a t-shirt. The 6th – 12th grades get an opportunity to win weekly prizes, weekly drawings, and a grand prize drawing for a gift card worth $260 from Elite Kicks sponsored by local businesses for each week's reading goals. Adult reading program information can be found at the circulation desk in the Annex.

Summer reading is an important part of preventing summer slide. Studies indicate students who read recreationally outperform those who don’t. Students read more when they have the opportunity to choose materials based on their interests.

Registration continues throughout the summer. To learn more about the summer reading program at the library please call 217-732-5732, or checkout the library’s website www.lincolnpubliclibrary.org.
