Saturday, October 29, on a bright and sunny day,
downtown Lincoln was full of costumed kids ready for an exciting
experience.

The Hee-Bie Jee-Bie Jamboree provided a morning
full of treats and fun at the Logan County Safety Complex.
The Trunk-or-Treat event hosted by the Logan County Sheriff and
Energency Management Agency featured several of the vehicles used by
first responders in the county. These included a Mobile Command
Post, helicopter, fire trucks, ATV’s, dive boat and equipment, squad
cars, radio equipment and a drone demonstration.
As everyone walked around to see the various vehicles and learn
about the equipment, they also got candy.
At the Mobile Command Post, kids could walk inside and see the
equipment first responders use in situations such as natural
disasters or rescue operations.
One big draw was the helicopter, which many kids and adults lined up
to see it. Attendees got the chance to sit in the pilot’s or
passenger seat and see what it is like to be in a helicopter.
Greg Poore, who flew the helicopter in, said everyone loves a
helicopter, and it is not often you see one inside and out up close.

After climbing in the helicopter, Eli Martin said, “It was a cool
experience. I have never been in one.”
The drone caused wonderment and excitement as it flew overhead. As
one kid stared up into the sky, he said “wow.”
Ryan Anderson, a Police Sergeant at the Logan County Sheriff’s
Office, said he enjoyed seeing all the costumes and handing out
candy.
For Starry Baker, it was fascinating and interesting to see all the
different vehicles.
During the event, one of the firefighters had to leave his post to
answer a fire call, which shows that a first responders’ job is
never done.
The Hee-Bie Jee-Bie Jamboree provided a morning of fun and adventure
for both kids and adults.
