 The
Student Government Association (SGA) and Student Leaders in
Community and Civic Engagement (SLiCE) are partnered with the League
of Women Voters of McLean County to bring a voter information
workshop called Bagels & Ballots to campus.
The goal of the workshop was to inform students about the candidates
and measures on the ballot with the added bonus of a college student
essential: some free snacks. The “Bagels and Ballots” event was held
Thursday, October 27 on the Heartland Community College Main Campus
in Normal.
Heartland Community College Political Science Club and the SGA will
also be hosting an Election Night Watch Party in the Astroth
Community Education Center at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 8.
Students are encouraged to bring family and friends to enjoy an
evening of food, guest speakers, and peer discussion.

“It is important for our students to understand their role in
voting, community, and citizenship, said Sarah Tipton, Heartland
Community College Student Government Advisor. “By offering students
opportunities to learn about their role in the democratic process,
they examine their own various identities as a student, community
member, and citizen.”
The forums serve to encourage
Heartland students and community members to be informed and
active voters. Both events take place on the Normal campus and
are free for students.
Throughout the Fall 2022 semester Heartland’s Civic Engagement
and Service Learning team has engaged the student body with
Constitution Day activities and a voter registration drive.
