All brands and sizes of diapers/wipes are welcome,
larger sizes (size 4-6) are especially welcome. This is Short’s
sixth year hosting the diaper drive and each year she hopes to
collect more than the year before. Over the last two years, this
diaper drive has collected and donated almost 15,000 units including
diapers and wipes to CAPCIL. The 2021 event holds the record with
over 4,700 units collected.
The Early Head Start Center-based programs use thousands of diapers
each year. On average, an infant uses 10 diapers per day! According
to the Illinois Department of Human Services, "The USDA does not
currently have a waiver for states to allow customers to purchase
diapers with SNAP/WIC benefits.” Unfortunately, this is a
significant burden on our families, and we do whatever we can to
help- such as a diaper drive. Therefore, our grant money can be used
to help our classrooms and families in other ways such as
educational materials, connecting with other resources, and training
for our staff to better serve our families.
Diapers can be dropped off at Christine Short’s office located at
515 Broadway Street in Lincoln during regular business hours through
November 28, 2022.

It is the mission of CAPCIL, in partnership with community
stakeholders, to empower low-income persons and other vulnerable
populations of all ages, through the creation and implementation
of poverty-fighting initiatives for those in crisis and those
who seek a life of lasting independence.
