Jenna Bowman sets a new school record for 3s in a game and tosses in a career-high 37 points

Have yourself a history-making day, Jenna Bowman!

Bowman and the Lady Railers spent their Saturday afternoon at the Pana Thanksgiving Tournament and you can bet by the end of the day, these girls from Lincoln were the talk of the town.

Bowman, a junior, scored a career-high 37 points versus the Gillespie Miners and Lincoln won 78-16.

Bowman also impressively set a new LCHS record by scoring nine 3s in the game. The previous record of eight 3s was set by Patty Carmitchel in 2006.

The Lady Railers still held a hot hand from the morning session of the tournament, where they had defeated Williamsville 63-13.

When the Lady Railers took the court versus Gillespie at 3 p.m. it was Bowman who was ready to lead the way. Bowman sank three 3s in the first quarter. With Kloe Froebe adding eight points and Taryn Stoltzenburg tossing in a basket, Lincoln was up early 19-3.

Froebe led Lincoln with 13 points in the second quarter and Bowman contributed nine points again, but this time only one three-pointer was in the mix. As halftime rolled around, Lincoln kept the Miners underground with a 50-8 lead.

Bowman added one more three in the third quarter to go along with a couple two-point field goals. Froebe and Grace Schneider also scored for the Lady Railers in the quarter and the running clock was on the horizon. Lincoln’s lead was 63-14 as the third quarter came to an end.

Bowman made the most of her time in the fourth quarter by sinking four more 3s and setting the new school record.

Makinley Knapp also scored three points in the final quarter and the Lady Railers completed their day of destroying the competition by defeating Gillespie 78-16.

Jenna Bowman’s stellar shooting performance ended with a career-high 37 points. This is by far the most points she’s ever scored, according to her mom and team scorekeeper, Amanda Bowman.

Bowman's nine 3s against Gillespie is a new LCHS record for the Lady Railers, breaking a record for three-point shots made in a game that had been held by Patty Carmitchel since 2006.

Bowman recounted her record-breaking moment via a telephone interview on Sunday afternoon.

“There was maybe like one or two minutes left in the third quarter and I think the other team called a timeout,” began Bowman. “I came over to the bench and Coach (Rohrer) was like, 'We gotta keep Jenna in the game.' But I was getting a little tired from running back and forth. So she gave me a little break and then put me back in. She didn’t tell me how many three-pointers I was away from the record, but she told me I was close. So I was like, 'Oh shoot, I gotta try and get it. I want this now that I am so close.' So I took a little break and in the fourth quarter I went in and she told the team to just feed me the ball. So my team did that and helped me.”

Bowman made four three-point shots in the fourth quarter and she thinks she may have missed two other attempts.

Her record-breaking three came after she pulled down a rebound and tossed the ball to a teammate and then hustled to the corner, one of her favorite spots.

“I was shooting kind of fast, faster than I normally would,” said Bowman, “But then I got a rebound and I threw the ball out to Lily Holmes and she passed it back to me and I shot it. That was the ninth one.”

Bowman’s teammates on the bench erupted in jubilation.

As far as the awesome weekend in Pana, Bowman said, “We all worked together and came to play.”

The girls came to play indeed.

Kloe Froebe also hit double-figures for Lincoln with 25 points scored versus the Miners.

And, of course, the Lady Railers got offensive support from the rest of the team as well.

Head Coach Taylor Rohrer commented after the game. “We played really good team ball and found open players who knocked down shots in the half court offense,” said Rohrer. “We had a lot of young players step up today and get valuable minutes at the Varsity level, they each played hard on defense and worked as a team within our offense.”

Upon a quick fact check, Lincoln head coach Taylor Rohrer was swift to note that Bowman had set a new record for three-pointers.

“I’m proud of my kids for how they played and how they supported one another. I’m excited for Jenna as she was able to break a school record tonight, this comes as a direct result of great shooting by her and teammates willing to get her the ball.”

The Lady Railers improved to 4-0 on the season and will continue playing in the Pana Thanksgiving Tournament next weekend, with games on Friday and Saturday.
