Hilltoppers fall to Tri-City/Sangamon Valley 66-43 in the Bill Rucks Tournament

[November 27, 2022]    The Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers lost to Tri-City/Sangamon Valley 66-43 Wednesday night in the 12th Annual Bill Rucks Varsity Boys Basketball Tournament.

 

Evan Cooper and Clay Aylesworth combined to score the Hilltoppers first quarter points, but the Tornadoes were the ones who stormed out to an 11-6 lead.

The Tornadoes continued their whirlwind scoring and held a 34-19 lead at the half.

The Tornadoes continued pouring in buckets in the paint and from beyond the arc to control the Hilltoppers in the third quarter. Tri-City/Sangamon Valley had a 53-33 lead over Mount Pulaski with eight minutes left in the game.

Mount Pulaski was 8-for-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and Ethan Payne added a field goal, but the Tornadoes sealed the 66-43 victory.

Three Hilltoppers scored in double-figures with 11 points each: Clay Aylesworth, Evan Cooper and Gavin Smith.

Mount Pulaski falls to 0-2 on the season.

The Hilltoppers will play Auburn at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night.
